Since 1951 this fountain has been the landmark of Geneva. Two pumps with a total output of approx. 1000 kw carry the water up to 140 meters in the direction of the sky. It ejects 500 litres of sea water per second at a speed of 200 km / h. At twilight, the Jet d'eau is lit with high-power spotlights.
Originally built as an overpressure valve for the pressurized water supply line for the jeweller machines
The water of the jet, which is constantly in the air, weighs over five tons
Jet d'eau served as a model for many other fountains.
